  •  Gators... (14+ / 0-)

In lakes and ponds, and walking across the road. I haven't had one on my porch, but I've known people who have. My grandfather had one break into the screen around his pool and he had to have a trapper come get it out of the pool. Some people use to feed the gators on the preserve, despite it being against the law, so they would glide right up to boats and docks, hoping for some chicken.

About a month ago, Bit, her friend and Freya (woozle) were outside playing. The girls went to come in the house and the dog wouldn't let them get anywhere near the ramp to come in. Bit's friend looked under the ramp, and there curled up was a snake. It was only a Southern Red Ringed snake, and those are both small and non-venomous, but where it was positioned Freya couldn't get to it. She's a Catahoula Leopard dog (Louisiana Cattle dog) and so has the instinct to kill snakes and to herd the people or animals she's protecting away from them.. The girls were stuck outside for a half an hour until the snake slithered off (probably under the trailer) and Freya let them get on the ramp and come in the house.
