to a recovering Republican as a possible Democratic governor. I'm afraid that at best he'll be a "centrist" and at worst he'll be a Skeletor we'll be told not to complain about because at least he isn't a Republican. :P

What's wrong with America? I'll tell you. Everything Romney said was pre-chewed wads of cud from Republicans from the last 30 years and yet he managed thru a combination of racism and selling the (false) hope of riches to get 47% of the national vote.

    •  I agree, but I have not heard anyone else (4+ / 0-)

mentioned. But, because I share your suspicions I keep asking.

One advantage of Crist, though, is that he apparently is considered to have good chances of winning.

His public statements denouncing Scott over voter supression, and on a few other issues have been the most aggressive and progressive as any other nationally conspicuous Floridian, except for Rep Debbie Wasserman-Schultz.  Crist's vociferous and scathing anti Scott suppression comments received more press than anyones, including Schultz, fueling speculation is position for another run at Governor.

      •  Crist is not a progressive. He's an opportunist (5+ / 0-)

But he probably wouldn't be the worst choice.  He's a FL native and cares about the state especially the environment.   He's good on voter rights which is crucial in Fl.

Huffpo saying "Progressive Dems Charlie Crist is not you friend."

I haven't read it yet, but suspect you just summed it up.

The question becomes can we find a more progressive Florida Democrat who has comparable chances to win, who want to run?

I'd like to know sooner than later, because I'm tired of waiting to the last minute on this crucial elections and want to throw as many Republicans out as we can.  Especially, remarkable bad ones like Rick Scott is seems ripe for replacement.

          •  my choice would be Pam Iorio former mayor (0+ / 0-)

of Tampa.  She's def. a progressive but has never won statewide.   Don't know if progressives will challenge Crist who has been campaigning forever and has the big bucks behind him.

        •  Former Governor Charlie Christ rocked on voter (3+ / 0-)

suppression.  He was actually better than any other Democrat that comes to mind.

He pulled all the stops. Invoking the threat to democracy, using adjectives that make me look lack a slack-jawed bystander, which is quite an accomplishment when you think about it.

        •  Check this out. Crist went on a media round-robin (3+ / 0-)

          Here's one example:

Charlie Crist Blasts Rick Scotts Unconscionable Voter Suppression

Former Florida Gov. Charlie Crist (R) on Wednesday criticized his successor, Gov. Rick Scott (R), and other Republicans for using “shameless” tactics that suppress voting rights, including requiring photo IDs, preventing felons from voting and purging voter rolls.

“The concern really is on sort of a closing the door on democracy,” Crist told MSNBC’s Andrea Mitchell. “For example, they’ve already changed the policy as it relates to former, non-violent felons. We had established a policy where they would have their rights automatically restored, give them the opportunity to vote once they had served their time and paid their debt to society. … That has now been changed under the new administration.”

denouncing Rick Scott on voter suppression, acting like a Hounddog.

“In addition, they’ve also said that early voting — which is a great tradition is Florida — has been reduced from a 14-day period before the elections to eight days before, making it again more difficult for legal citizens to have their right to vote be heard.” ...

“Anytime that you put more impediments into a citizen’s right — a legal citizen’s right to vote and make that more difficult, you impede the natural right of democracy and a citizen’s right to have their voice heard in important elections.”

“It’s just plain wrong,” he added.

        •  Crist gave felons the right to vote again...Scott (0+ / 0-)

it right back, unfortunately. Crist extended voting days and hours. Skeletor Scott reduced them.
