    •  I, too, am a hippie lib formed in the '60's (6+ / 0-)

and all my Woodstock attending pals loved Cash, Denver...and Mozart, and Willie Nelson, and Hendrix, and Cole Porter...
We just didn't like the Vietman war, Nixon, the student massacre in Ohio, and the hang up about sex.  And racial discriminiation. Oh, and bras.
      Well, clothing in general.

that Willie showed up at Dripping Springs (which I understand was the Texas version of Woodstock) looking like an accountant. Was ridiculed for his straight-laced appearance, left, and came back looking like the Willie we know now, and launched his career. Have no idea if the story is true, but it is interesting nonetheless.

But he played cheap joints up and down Hwy 105, between Cleveland and Conroe Texas, and all of us complained his music was not good to dance to, then 20 yrs later, there was a one time music festival somewhere around Lovelady or Crockett, and By that time, we worshipped him.
lots of dope, sex, beer, fun, Willie, and all of us who are now bankers and judges and lawyers barely remember the details.
          We only remember Willie.
