  •  Hi All. Here's a funny and fun data point (12+ / 0-)

for all the OND editors, contributors, and commenters here, that supports an observation that I've often made while both complementing and teasing many of you here with -- that you could take just about any single three paragraph-link sub-section of a typical OND post, or any one of a dozen or two dozen typical comments from here, and turn it into a post that could get on the rec list by merely adding a few photos, and adding a hooker and kicker paragraphs to open and close it.

Late last night after most of you went to bed I mentioned this, in passing,  to wader and maggiejean, after put up a few of the article links and paragraphs in last night OND comments that  I was working on for a post this morning up in comments, here:

I'm working on an article on global solar energy (7+ / 0-) developments and it occurred to me that you all might find this snippet encouraging.

This morning I added two photos of some Bavarian buildings with solar collectors on them and had to take out the parts about China's addition of 12 Gigawatts of solar energy, in the following comment, as "too much substance." ( Experience has taught me anything over one solid full page reduces recs by about 50% for each additional paragraph.)

So just the segment on the 1.3 German solar energy systems minus a couple of paragraphs from last night OND comments is still on the top rec list with 129 recs and 110 comments.

Germany now has 1.3 million solar energy systems which generated 28 billion kilowatt hours in 2012.

So when I keep saying OND has such a rich gold mine of fascinating articles comments, night after night, that almost any little piece of it could a top rec'd post, I'm not just blowing smoke out of these big floppy HoundDog ears - not it's a scientifically established fact!

Some articles, or even photos call out to me, and I can hear them begging "Post Me!"

So, its like I'm possessed some times -- just a medium through which the ethereal essence living in all articles, printed or electronic, can some how sense and reach out and speak through me.

Like that little kid who could "see dead people" in that Bruce Willis movie.

For example,  Knuckleshead's photo of the florescent green undersea creature at the top of the comment section.  The very nanosecond I saw it I could hear it saying "Post Me!" as if destiny was being proclaimed by a chorus of angels.

That and two or three other knucklehead photos with a catchy opening. picture of knuckehead and paragraph talking about how he was called to do these photos and how he does it would be on the top rec list for days.

But, I also recognize for the hardcore OND readers and writers that would just be a distraction. Why venture out into the badlands and do a lot of extra formating work,  when you can see all this great stuff straight at full density right here in one quick convenient format.

It's not like Markos lets us turn in mojo for valuable prizes at the year end fund raising auctions, or something.
