One quibble with this otherwise excellent post, is that the state is now known as Transvaginal Transvirginia, and will retain that designation until it gets rid of the R trifecta currently infesting Richmond.

    The states must be abolished.

    •  Not transportation Virginia anymore. VDOT used (0+ / 0-)

to be "awesome" according to some and did an excellent job of managing such things as repairs on jammed I-66 without disrupting traffic. Over the last years is has become a clown act with contractors competing to create hazards and disruption. Why? The agency has been gutted along with transportation budgets.

So, what does this governor propose?

"Va. governor proposes replacing gas tax with sales tax increase as part of $3.1B roads plan"—yep, replace gasoline tax with increase in the most regressive of taxes, the general sales tax. And by the way, that lets drivers passing through and gassing up in the state largely untaxed for highway maintenance. Among other high low points:

The governor also wants to raise $547 million over five years by increasing vehicle registration fees by $15. An annual $100 fee on alternative fuel vehicles would raise an additional $66.6 million.
Of course, since it is considered revenue raising Grover Norquist's bunch is opposed and Jennifer Rubin's Right Turn column notes "Bob McDonnell’s transportation plan creates problem for Cuccinelli" so maybe we can hope this abortion of a transportation plan is a plague on all their houses.
