  •  My condolences. (5+ / 0-)

I know how some of those country vets are, the ones who say they do dogs and cats but really just focus on horses and livestock.  Which is fine if that's what they want to do, but if they don't want to do dogs and cats... just don't do them.  He was never my vet, (and tragically he and his son died in a terrible car accident a few years ago), but the local vet near my mom was one of those who didn't care for pets.  He routinely botched spay and neuter operations that killed pets.  And then he would claim the pets were unhealthy and that's why they died, except he would always say there WERE healthy in order for him to do the operation in the first place.

But I feel for you.  I recently (12 Dec 2012, a date I'll never forget) had to euthanize my Shar Pei, Taki, at nine years of age because she developed a rare type of bone cancer that begins in the skull.  She was a tough, bossy, independent girl but she was sweet as could be and even the vet put notes in her file indicating she was a sweetheart.  She was fiercely protective, and tried to bite people who I didn't let inside the house/on the property.  I miss her dearly.  And it was tough to do, but it was the right thing to do, so she didn't suffer.  I'm just sorry you didn't have a compassionate vet like mine.  They were amazing going through the whole process, and it was my first time dealing with a terminally ill pet with this vet.

My love to you and Alas.  <3
