    The Constitution would make it impossible for a leftist government to implement progressive policies, and that the Constitution would force every nation to conform to the right-wing agenda of a free unregulated laissez-faire market. The Constitution's vision of unity imposes a decidedly right-wing economic model through political force.

    Lassez-faire market is a Liberal ideology, not a right-wing.  The EU model of bringing together shared economics and turning that into a political entity makes sense, and is the natural progression of such things.

    I suspect, and there's nothing wrong with this, that the No vote has more to do with French Nationalism than any other reasons.  It's a problem that Chirac faces, that he wants Yes, but to vote Yes gives up a little bit of France.
