  •  And not Christianity per se, (22+ / 0-)

but their own narrow view of the brand. Most mainline Protestant religions have no problem with contraception, at least in the context of a committed monogamous marital relationship, and pretty much leave the whole thing up to the individual's own conscience anyway. I've never had to face a spiritual firing squad for my and my spouse's lack of offspring (just the occasional wistful sighs from his mom who still wishes for grandchildren). Why should their religious beliefs take priority over both my own and my health? (Of course, it's academic now since my reproductive system has shut down like a Bain Capital property, but that's beside the point.)

I appreciated you somewhat self-deprecating humor.

      Thank you.

about it -- she also realizes her eldest son (to whom I'm married) wasn't parental material either. Better to know your limitations ahead of time than to try to live up to someone else's ideals and ruin more lives than just your own.

    •  Not all teachers at catholic schools are catholic (6+ / 0-)

My husband had some protestant and Jewish teachers when he was in catholic high school back in the 70s. I applied for a job well over a decade ago at a catholic school and I am not catholic.  A former teacher of hubby;s said on Facebook recently that she was always covered for contraceptive in her health insurance and she was not catholic. She said no one even questioned what was covered or not covered in health insurance policies until the past 2 years. She said is not all political and not religious what is going on in this contraceptive debate. She says it is so stupid that they are worrying about what insurance covers in terms of contraceptives. She said the catholic school she worked out was happy that their teachers were not always on maternity leave or quitting because they had 6 or more kids. This woman said that would happened a lot more and the turnover of teachers would be higher without contraceptions..a nun admitted that to her privately.

And if the sc hears their case, that's what's going to sink it.

There are catholic hospitals in MA, they didn't have a problem with providing insurance under romneycare. And they have hospitals in most other countries, and pay taxes that support whatever national health service there is, and they all provide contraception. Including catholic countries like France.

I'm sure they've provided healthcare that included coverage for contraception in just about every state in the country, but suddenly it's now a problem?

I can't see that going over at all.

Priests and nuns who ran the catholic school frankly did not care what the Protestant teachers did in their private lives and if they used contraception or anything else. She said being non catholic , she was left alone as they were not worried she would break the church rules or anything like that.
