  •  I visited an army post. The men on their way to (17+ / 0-)

Iraq had to carry at all times.  This was training for when they were in Iraq and had to carry at all times.

Outside the PX- Commissary there were barrels with sand and rocks.  They had to fire their unloaded rifles and pistols into the barrel as a safety check to be proof positive they were not taking chambered rounds into the PX - Commissary.

These men were under intense 24/7 training, and still it was demanded of them to have this extra layer of security.

No, yayhoos walking down the street meaning no harm don't make me feel safe.

Sign my White House Petition Enforce the KEEP in the Second Amendment We don't have a problem with gun control, we have a problem with gun owners controlling their guns.

My boss in Iraq would handle thousands of dollars in cash.  One day he and the team sergeant had to pick some up, so the team sergeant chambered a round while they picked it up and brought it to the team safe.  Not long after, we were going into the rec center together and my team sergeant pointed his pistol into the clearing barrel and pulled the trigger.  He forgot to clear his weapon from earlier and it fired (he also didn't clear the chamber before pulling the trigger, which would have popped out the original round, they have SOPs for a reason I suppose).  A couple CID guys happened to be walking by, so he had to go to with them and explain the whole thing.

Point is, here was a seasoned infantry NCO who had been in-country for months doing this routine, and he still slipped up.  Those barrels are there for a reason.

There is truth on all sides. The question is how much.
