  •  I Have Wonderful Memories from Those Times (11+ / 0-)

Our parish priest was a younger hunky guy that all the young moms had a huge crush on. But he was very serious about the social justice movement. In those days, our mostly-white parish was becoming more and more Hispanic and the more activist young folks were very interested in what was happening in Latin America with the Church there -- this was the late 1970s and early 1980s. My childhood church experience was very positive.

A few days ago, I Googled our old parish priest. He has had a wonderful career -- the only blip being when he started giving a monthly Mass for same-sex couples. The Church hierarchy put a stop to that.

I loved the folk mass, too. We even had a Godspell mass one time, very enjoyable.

It's just not the Church I grew up in. I didn't leave the Church, the Church left me.
