  •  In my local paper a while back, a doctor (!) (6+ / 0-)

said that it was very, very sad that 20 little children had been killed, but that was the price we pay for the freedom to own guns.

People who drive cars kill people. But if we didn't have a lot of laws that give people an incentive to drive safely--or give the police the power to stop and arrest them when they don't--we wouldn't have tens of thousands of people dying due to auto accidents in this country, we'd have hundreds of thousands.

We're never going to stop all injuries or deaths due to guns. But to say that twenty kids being blown to pieces--and over 30,000 deaths a year--is a reasonable price to pay so that gun owners can maintain their "right"  have any gun they want, without valid background checks, without registrations, without anything to help lower the carnage, just makes me sick.

Freedom has two enemies: Those who want to control everyone around them...and those who feel no need to control themselves.
