the lies are only a matter of 'how many?'. The more we engage in de-escalation, using facts and stats ('98 AR school shooting involved junior high guys who stole the guns by breaking into the locked safe of a relative) and open discussions, the more we can properly discredit the NRA's errors in many minds. ie: don't attack the organization with a broad brush. They have promoted and taught gun safety for decades and many members joined years before lobbying for gun manufacturers became their primary objective.

We have begun winning more battles on LGBT, contraception, etc. despite years of propaganda. Because there are a lot of Americans who are not clutching guns they don't even have, they are even more open to the discussion than those that do own Bibles, read them, go to church; and have voted for marriage equality, contraception/abortion access, etc.

Do we want a guy like Lanza being able to inherit his mother's or father's guns? No matter how unlikely it seems to us that the parent would do such a thing, not having a prohibiting law allows it to happen. How many times?

The inheritance transfer only needs to be subjected to the new owner meeting eligibility to be licensed to own guns, and registered with the transfer as any other transfer would be done. Might be part of estate planning to have more than one prospective inheritor of a family antique, all of whom are eligible when the will is written. In a family like that, the percent of those who would inherit that are already licensed is probably pretty high.
