any other discursive community. The biggest problem in I/P, say 18 months ago, was that it had narrowed into a largely predetermined banter among a handful of hotheads more than willing to take threads far to the right side of the page in order to score "points" (measured by HRs and uprates, deserved or abusive) against their opponents. Over a relatively short period of time, a combination of direct moderation (bojo and NR), a few flame-outs and a few instances of people just "walking away" got rid of many of the worst players (and no mistake, many were here simply for "the game"). Some good folks quit too, and that's a shame, but the net effect has been that for the most part (occasional trolls, zombies, jerks and bigots are a fact of life in almost any discursive community) people who made it through that period are working within the "be a good guest in someone else's house" rule-of-thumb and the worst of the oldschool hotheadedness, imputation of motive and personality-based jerkdom has been tempered.
