  •  I've seen a real improvement in I-P too (5+ / 0-)

And I've seen people from both sides be civil toward each other in many diaries. I still think we need to work to avoid anti-Semitic comments, which tend to be heard as dog whistles so one side sometimes hears these more clearly than the other, as well as not painting people with broad brushes about their intention. I think separating out the various Governmental players from the populace of Israel and Palestine has probably been helpful, at least it has for me.

I like the I-P diaries greatly.

I've been mocked by some in them for a "lack of serious commitment," although not using those words, but this was from a poster who had a long-standing gripe with me, and I acknowledged it as old and unrelated history, ignored it, and moved on. That helped, even though there were probably a dozen or two comments made in diary after diary.

I think it's critical to realize that those who comment on I-P generally care for very deep reasons; maybe we could talk more about what lead us to care about this? That could help humanize people. If there's one thing I do truly, truly believe, it's that everyone on both sides absolutely wants a resolution which is fair and just. Sometimes that gets taken out on the populations of Palestine or Israel unfairly when anger out to be addressed toward their Governmental leaders making decisions about things, as well as other players involved. I did a ton of reading recently on the current conflicts, and I was very fascinated by those Leftist Jews who really wanted to see basic civil equality for all and who were working with like-minded Palestinians. I'd love to read a diary about Israeli-Palestinian quests for a peaceful solution to highlight not only the spectacle of conflict but also the underappreciated quest for resolution to that conflict.
