Living in a very small condo community (14 units) in NW OKC, where it looks like I'll be stuck being prez of the HOA for the forseeable future. As an avid gardener, I can't help noticing the drought right in my own tiny back yard, and throughout the grounds. Been keeping an eye on all this for 5 years now, as various plants have succumbed to the excessive heat in summer.  Been replacing them (or not) with native or more tolerant plants and trees when possible--and that has helped greatly.  But no water!  Our big "elephant in the room" problem is a courtyard swimming pool that is long past time to be repaired and resurfaced.  It still works, and we're putting off the repairs while saving money to get the job done. Last year I felt nothing but guilt even filling the pool! There must be a come-to-jesus decision sooner rather than later, I think, about what to do with the thing. Some of us are leanng towards just using the money we've got so far to simply fill it in, rather than go to all the expense of repairing a pool that can't be used because of water rationing. All this sounds trivial when contemplating a warming planet, but homeowners here are concerned about property values lessening because of the lack of a pool...so the discussion goes. I would welcome some real state and local decisions about this kind of thing to clarify water usage priorities! Sure would make my 'lobbying' efforts easier! Meanwhile, the soil is just dry, drier, driest. I often wonder if our legislators even have the capacity to see further than the ends of their noses.
