  •  But not unexpected. (11+ / 0-)

For some there is literally nothing that can penetrate.

    Best to ignore them.

    •  No, not unexpected (12+ / 0-)

We always knew that the hyperpartisans would have no line in the sand.  But it's still jarring.

The new talking point  seems to be that chained CPI is not really a cut, it's a way to save the Social Security program but that the ultimate solution to fixing Social Security is comprehensive immigration bill.  Somehow.  Because the millennial generation is not having enough children fast enough.  Nevermind that my millennial kids are not even out of high school yet. Anyway, this is the next brilliant set of talking points.

I'm wondering when the push for raising the Medicare age will start again.  Rendell is out there shilling for it, as are some Wall Street geniuses.

I think we will see some efforts at distraction during the next month like we have never seen before.

      •  distraction (8+ / 0-)

i thought gun control was going to be the distraction but that's going nowhere fast...so quick look over there ------> immigration reform! I'm really starting to pay attention to one Kossack - who although I disagree with her on ...well everything - she seems to be a foreshadower of what is to come from the administration, and yesterday she dropped the immigration reform will fix SS bomb.

unrelated things just hit me. All this hullabaloo recently over the SS cuts - which has zero to do with the deficit etc - combined with the death spiral of climate silence, and the tragic loss of Aaron. From the piece I linked to yesterday's WH, this statement really resonated with me:

I remember always thinking that he always seemed too sensitive for this world we happen to live in, and I remember him working so mightily, so heroically, to try to bend the world into a place more hospitable to people like him, which also means hospitable to people like us. I like what the blogger Lambert Strether wrote on my Facebook page (in Aaron’s memory, friend me!): “Our society should be selecting for the Aaron Swartz’s of this world. Instead, generous and ethical behavior, especially when combined with technical brilliance, turns out to be maladaptive, indeed lethal. If Swartz had been Wall Street’s youngest investment banker, he would be alive today.”
So... excuse me but my bullshit tolerance level is very low these days.

        •  Trying to think of how to summarize (7+ / 0-)

what I experienced in corporate America...

When you start to climb the ladder and get to know the management personally, you realize that most of them are mediocre sell outs and they are very fearful of very intelligent, ambitious people coming up the ladder behind them.  If those intelligent folk are very compliant and naive and get a lot of work done to make the managers look good, they will be okay. But as soon as they start to figure out what's going on, as soon as they start to have their own ambitions and stir the pot, the mediocre managers will thwart them and even destroy them if they have to.

I watched a guy get undermined and destroyed once.  He built a department of very smart, really good people who worked together well and loved their work.  He started getting noticed by the highest levels of management.  He started doing things differently than the status quo.  And the guy just above him destroyed him after he got him fired he just dismantled everything he had built too.
