Love the car. It's a stress reducer when you drive it, and a daily-expense reducer when you don't have to visit the gas pump at ALL.

The Nissan LEAF is very much a "real" car much along the same lines of the "i" and the Tesla. Starting just this week, the LEAF and it's battery pack are being built in Smyrna, TN.

Electric cars, when you take the lowered operating costs into account, are cheaper over the long term, when you consider a 6-10 year ownership cycle.   There are a huge variety of variable factors which go into this equation, but on the whole, the electric cars are cheaper in the long run. As their acquisition costs go down, their rate of return shortens. Initial acquisition costs are largely based on battery costs, and as those go down, so will the MSRPs of the cars.

In regards to the emissions naysayers, electric cars are better for the environment in almost 99% of all cases:

And, it's the only type of "fuel" available at the present time which will continue to get cleaner:

The grid in the U.S. and most likely much of the rest of the world will get greener over time.

My LEAF is leased, and I only pay $150/mo. Paid 3k down. Smokin' deal, and some can still be had for the 2012 models.

The new 2013 models, made in TN, will soon be available in lower trim levels, at lower cost that the current models.

a few months ago and LOVE it!  daughter drives it to work (about a 30-40 min commute) and her company allows her to plug it in to recharge.  daughter & hubby have already noticed the cost advantage!

now i am just waiting for MY hubby to invest in this car (he drives from home to golf club).  my prius covers the long trips.

It's mostly my wife's car, so I only drive it when the two of us go out in the evening.  But it's fun to drive and comfortable.  I don't think much of the visibility all around though - the little complex pillars at the sides of the windshield and such make it a bit tricky in some circumstances.  And I miss the vast array of well-designed cup holders in our Toyotas.  But, in general, it's a treat to drive.  Lots of acceleration, if you want it.  And love the silence of it.
