    wrong.  He got beat by a superior candidate with superior marketing in '92 and '96, but those days he was just the 'focus group guy', rather than part of the inner circle.  His work was used to great effect by Rove et. al. in the 90s and 00s.

    The problem seem to be the Peter Principle: 2008 destroyed Rove's kingmaker myth and Luntz moved to fill the leadership vacuum in the marketing corporation that calls itself the R-party.  That meant he had to believe rathr than be objective about facts, or at least so seem to that he ultimately talked himself into it.  He forget the #1 rule of marketing: the Product is irrelevant.
