purity tests.  The question is whether or not this woman is really moderate or simply acting out of expediency.  Time will tell.

As long as she helps build the Democratic party, I don't particularly care.  When we talk about the GOP overreaching nationally, this is the result.  The actual voters aren't getting more liberal, per se, the party is getting too conservative.  So as the conservatives who used to be comfortable Republicans are pushed out by the radicals, we have to be ready to accept them into the fold.

Remember, its not just about the person on top.  If this woman is somehow able to win a major seat as a Democrat she will have staff positions open for Democrats that would otherwise go to Republicans.  Not to mention the party building that goes along with successful statewide campaigns and the morale lift of having a D next to a state official's name.

And it seems like the bridges have been napalmed between her and the GOP, she's here to stay.

There is truth on all sides. The question is how much.

Kansas really does have a strong tradition of moderate Republicans, who have clashed—openly, frequently and loudly—with the conservatives led by Brownback. Throughout her career, Schodorf has been identified with the moderates. Remember, Republican moderates basically ran a coalition government with  Democrats until Brownback managed to primary most of them. Her values haven’t changed, in my opinion. It’s just that the quintessentially moderate Kansas Democratic Party is a much better fit for them now.
