  •  You recall correctly. (4+ / 0-)

Forty years later nothing has changed.  Actually its probably gotten worse.

We could beat some of these loons (Brownback included) if only we had worthwhile candidates.

There just doesn't seem to be any good Democrats left in Kansas anymore.

    •  Are there any more (2+ / 0-)

    •  We do have good Democrats (0+ / 0-)

All of the statewide candidates in 2010 were good, it’s just that it was 2010. That election wiped out nearly the entire bench.

      •  Maybe Six and Biggs were OK but (0+ / 0-)

I don't think Tom Holland was a good candidate.

        •  McKinney was good, too (0+ / 0-)

Remember, this is Kansas, so "good" is relative. Besides Parkinson, it’s hard to imagine someone better than Holland. Holland raised decent money and had the right profile, but Brownback was an extremely tough opponent.

Dennis McKinney, a state legislator and the State Treasurer at the time, was good, too. If you check out his performance in south-central Kansas, he mopped up something like 65% of the vote in like 6 different counties (most in or near his former state legislative district). Unfortunately, the Republicans nominated someone competent for that position—the Sedgewick County Treasurer, who dominated in his home county, which is much more populous than the ones McKinney ran away with...
