in the Dolphin Diary...awwww cute isn't something you are likely to hear if killer whales visit your , heh, feeding station. More like 'awww fk!'...'where's my camera!'

At those links they track the Salmon eaters of K-Pod and also the marine mammal eater KW's in the region.
I had a friend telling me about his adventures kayaking the outside of Vancouver Island and seeing them there too.

I am remembering another chance they had to snack me and didn't...in the early 70's I was canoeing around Quandra Island in the Inland Passage by Vancouver Island, myself, and an eagle and a seal that followed me, obviously spirit friends...and a pod of KW's went by, I could hear them breathing and they were gone and away before I could turn around to see them go behind another island.

At night they went thru a gap right next to my campsite 'phewwwwww-ssssp!' splash...

I see the Elwha reference, yay!

You would probably really enjoy going to a Dana Lyons concert.  My favorite song of his is 'Drop of Water', which he played as the very last order of business before the dam came down.

Kind of fuzzy video; music starts at about 2:00.

He'll be away in Hawaii for most of February, and then the tour goes on.

          that's is amazing...were they saying:

          'sorrysorrysorry!'

          or

          'hahahahaha!'

          or

          'we wuz jes funnin!'

glad they have a sense of humor and the good taste not to pluck me off my little boats or eat that little boy in his seal blubber looking wetsuit. Lots of surfers to chose from too...

Now I wonder what the traditional stories are about such incidents, coastal peoples would surely have many such stories....and considering they are also hunting at and in the waters edge could have gone either way like this incident.

          And tthis:
'As he swam underwater, Ellis said, he heard a "boom" that sounded like a gun'..was that some sonic blast that confuses prey? sounds like it might be such...or a sonar mapping giving real good last second image.

          Really interesting, thanks very much.
