    The whole place must have been so new and different for the visitors. Electric lights were all over, unlike in most of the rest of the city. People were there from foreign lands.

      jim in IA, diggerspop, foresterbob I said, he doesn't do much in the way of elaboration.  I just looked it up.  His September 4, 1893 entry says they visited the world's fair and stayed the night in Harvey (which would have been a fair commute in those days.)  The Ferris wheel entry on September 6 reads, in total, "Went up in Ferris Wheel. Staid for Illumination at night."  It's left to the reader to fill in the details, I guess. ;-)
