absolutely. What this armchair dweller doesn't know is whether or not he has already taken it as far as he is capable.

None of us knows the answer to that, either, do we? Perhaps he was never asked to accept it by TPTB. Perhaps he wanted to accept it and was heartily discouraged on some level.

Given his propensity for a lot of good financial calls, the corrupt surely don't want him around. But that's just me, being a cynical Cassandra ;)

It is time to #Occupy Media.

universally - including about progressive academics' motives for not pursuing positions in government.  If someone is very good at being right, and is in a position where being right is personally advantageous rather than risky, it would take a certain level of selflessness to change that for the uncertain prospect of tangibly benefiting society.

Or, if we're to be charitable, we should also entertain the possibility that Paul Krugman knows a lot more about what's going on and where it's going than what to do about it, and acknowledges that about himself.  He might be the equivalent of a physicist where what is needed is a chemical engineer - the what and the how are not the same.

Our problem, I think, is an insufficient mixture of what and how - the how runs the show completely, to the point where most of them don't seem to really care what the outcome is as long as the process benefits them.  Theoretically speaking, maybe the financial system needs the equivalent of a "judiciary" - people who can just say "nope, that's going to produce the wrong outcome."

      Pour yourself into the future.
