    that the barrier islands and beaches naturally grow and recede, diminish and replenish - not that climate change has not amplified that dynamic, but that the major problem is, as you suggest, development and the correlative assumption that the condos and the like are not literally built on sand.

    If we'd had any foresight, the barrier islands would have been set aside as national parks rather than developed. Now we're fighting a losing battle against nature rather than enjoying her and benefitting from her dynamism.

    The GOP can't win on ideas. They can only win by lying, cheating, and stealing. So they do.

      Replenishing beaches seems like a bad idea ... in the same category as widening the NJ turnpike ....

        by states and local governments as they also have hands in development issues.  We now need federal guidelines re development as climate change has changed everything.
