tremendous savings by starting with Congressional pay, health benefits and other percs which amount to approximate $4.74 billion per annum.  That's for folks who never work a 5 day week or a 4 week month.  One week of government shutdown and not paying Congress (including retroactively like they threaten other govt. employees) would save us almost $91.5 million, if my division thingy is correct on my calculator.

How much does congressional pay and benefits cost taxpayers.

That doesn't include all the lifetime salary and health benefits for the retired folks.

The Executive branch controls the agencies that cut the checks.

getting something for nothing from the Fed and State gov't.  Yet, they fully expect to be paid for when they're not actually working (they do have some real work back in their states, but probably not as much as they're taking).  So, pay them by the hour that they're actually working and see how they like it!
