  •  Democrats could help end this "voter fraud" tactic (7+ / 0-)

by creating a national photo ID card, that is given free of charge from any Federal Office including the Post Office.

To obtain one, all you would need is identity similar to obtaining a driver's license or passport.  Once you had the ID, it would be mandated as valid ID for any activity that requires photo ID including cashing a cheque, buying a firearm or voting.

That would strangle the "voter fraud" BS once and for all.

Tax and Spend I can understand. I can even understand Borrow and Spend. But Borrow and give Billionaires tax cuts? That I have a problem with.

take the Federal Elections away from the States, because they demonstrate a lack of will or capacity to manage them.

What is really needed is an election commission that is free from party political influence, and responsible for managing elections, and districting.

Guess who would fight that idea?

I hope that the quality of debate will improve,
but I fear we will remain Democrats.

people would object and the low information voter could be easily convinced it was a ploy to rig future elections.

(You can almost hear the screed "Obama wants to run [insert state name] elections to make sure we 'vote correctly')

But a national ID card?  Outside of the religious nuts (mark of the beast) there is no grounds to oppose it

"innocent until proven guilty" presumes that what individuals do is good and honorable, until proved otherwise. Individuals should not have to validate their existence. What name they use is also their perogative. The proponents of a national ID are mostly concerned that mobile citizens are hard to keep track of and, from the bureaucrat's perspective, a royal nuisance. What they want is for people to stay put. Part of the impetus behind the rather convoluted drug support program for the elderly, which requires them to sign up with pharmacists and not move their prescriptions around, was to create an incentive for medicated people to stop moving around the country.
Republicans are into control. They only provide services as a handle to give them control. If the population doesn't behave as they want, then they don't deserve the "benefits." People insisting on their rights is totally out of bounds.

We organize governments to deliver services and prevent abuse.
