    If a contract is asking you to do something illegal, then it is not legally binding.

    If there is an investigation, and the witnesses aren't talking because they were basically bribed into signing a gag order, IMO the least would be contempt of court, perjury if they "talk", then aiding and abetting or conspiracy, then maybe even witness tampering for Bachmann.

    There's plenty of options for law enforcement to get a witness to talk.  In this case, it sounds like the staff thinks they can make a hella more than $5K if they don't sign a gag order.
