Are New Yorkers so generally incompetent that restricting magazine capacity from 10 to 7 will actually reduce suicides?

    Bang! Damn, I missed.

Seriously, for any gun related crime with only one victim, please describe how any of the new law is going to help them? Will the lack of a bayonet mount, pistol grip or flash hider make the victim more bulletproof? Will 7 round magazines instead of 10 save the first person to be shot? Will guns magically become too heavy for children to lift? Will people willing to commit armed robbery flinch at the notion of stealing a gun to do it? Will touching a gun make a drunk sober?

The only thing in there that might make a difference is the background check for private sales, and I get the impression that provision will be the toughest to enforce.

different provisions of the law address different problems; that way you can cherry-pick a provision that has nothing to do with the problem you choose to discuss!

Here's another provision: all gun sales, even between private citizens, will require background checks, making it more difficult for potential suicides with psychiatric histories to obtain guns. That would have kept the gun out of my friend's hands, who killed himself and left the mess for his wife and 14-year-old daughter to discover.

And no, it won't get all those guns out of circulation tomorrow, but of course if that were attempted you'd be screaming to high heaven. But it's start.

"The only thing we have to fear is fear itself."........ "The test of our progress is not whether we add more to the abundance of those who have much; it is whether we provide enough for those who have too little." (yeah, same guy.)

If you had actually made it to the bottom of my comment before replying you would have read:

Which, had you read it, was stating the provision that would have helped your friend was the one I that singled out as possibly making a difference.

So what exactly are you disagreeing with me about?
