    the airline I worked in maintenance and overhaul, in our dock/line they used to take electrical/avionics guys to run the engineer's panel for run ups. the logic was simple: the engineer has a desk, run up paperwork is voluminous and a pain, therefore...

    So I learned to run the panel, mostly via OJT. I have fond memories of the dark cabin, I messed up getting the generators on line or something, anyway there were about half a dozen mechanics sitting in the dark cabin looking up the aisle watching me try to pull a rabbit out of some hat.
