...is a "feature" of Internet Explorer 8 (XP), and 9 (Win 7 and Win 8). Some graphics trip it, and when it switches on, it seems to block Javascript, which then appears to block certain DKos stuff, such as the Recommend star icon, and full loading of the page, which screws up the Recommend and Hide buttons, usually indicated by the "Rate All" box appearing next to them, and the buttons being unresponsive.

Other browsers may have the same problem, but have no explicit Compatibility View function. One thing I've found is if your clear out your cookies, it may shut off CV, and for other browsers this may also work.

I have only experience with IE 8, and the CV icon is a button at the top of the browser window, with what looks like a torn page in it. If the background is dark, CV is on. You can also access it in the Tools pulldown, and if there's a check next to it, it's on. It may have been tripped by something else on another site, and stayed on when you visited DKos, and the site responsible would be shown by clicking Compatibility View Settings.

    That's all I got.

Somebody has to do something, and it's just incredibly pathetic that it has to be us.
