2/3d's of the republicans voted against the Sandy Relief bill today.  How the hell are they going to get any votes against their base?

    •  Maybe same as Sandy, most Dems and some Repubs? (3+ / 0-)
    •  I didn't say it will be easy. But the pressure... (6+ / 0-)

...isn't just going to be coming from the NRA and the tea party on some of these issues. The assault weapons ban is probably DOA. But it may not even make it out of the Senate. Other stuff, however, is far less contentious.

The Senate is a tough fight in the 2014 cycle. We'll make a go of it in Maine and Georgia, maybe pick up a shocker someplace like Kansas or Kentucky, but holding the Senate will be a major challenge.

Gun control and violence are going to build up slowly from here. I'm looking to 2016 as the big impact point.

Getting on the wrong side for gun violence will be a major liability in 2016 for GOPer seats in New Hampshire, Pennsylvania, Ohio, Illinois, Wisconsin, Iowa, Missouri, and Florida.

Let a big gun rampage by a madman occur in the South and that list could expand overnight. Good Old Boy politics is a lot thinner than it was a generation ago.

Moving GOPer females over to voting against gun violence -- a Holy Grail for pro-democracy demographics.

        Vote Pro-Life !!
        Vote Against Gun Violence!

    •  Because it will happen again. (5+ / 0-)

Get a Senate bill shot down in the House.

Wait for the next senseless and horrific act of gun violence against innocent children.

See what happens to those who blocked the first bill.

We might not be able to pass more than universal background checks and magazine size limits in the initial round, but whether because I'm a cynic or a really depressed realist, I have faith in the inevitability of carnage.
