  •  I have doubts this ALEC plan would work. 1) Some (1+ / 0-)

states, like Pa., are hesitant to go along with blatant election rigging---even the GOP pa. leg. has significant problems with Corbett's attempt to privatize the very lucrative state lottery.
    2) GOP voter suppression backfored in 2012. 3) If states (say Pa., Ohio, Michigan, Wisc., Virg. did follow one of the ev manipulation schemes it could have a reverse effect. Democrats would gain a significant percentage + the number of battleground states would shrink. A quite possible result could be a closer electoral vote but also one with less opportunity for the GOP to get 270.
    4) By shrinking the current "battleground;' states resources could go to emerging battleground states such as Georgia- which democrats would probably not otherwise emphasize 5) There would be areal chance of some pinkish GOP districts (suburban Phila. for example) could be put in play. It could cost Republicans 5-10 Congressional seats in the northeast and Midwest.

How much influence would PA have in national politics if their votes were split like that?

      Ditto for Ohio?

states (as would be quite possible) it could have minimal electoral influence but cause a backlash like the voter suppression effort.

        •  I sure hope the Dems are targeting some red states (8+ / 0-)

....to turn over in the next election.

They seem to have dropped the 50 state strategy -- OK, it's tough to campaign in so many states -- but they should still have a list of 5 to 10 switchable Red states that they can just blanket with organization efforts.

        •  Yes, and it would actually hurt GOP chances (0+ / 0-)

If it went through in Ohio and Pennsylvania, for example, they still wouldn't get enough electoral votes to win the election and there would be another 10 votes that would be impossible to get.

Doing it in Ohio would be foolish since Ohio is so close that the GOP can't just right it off. And the GOP needs ALL the votes from Ohio.
