AFTER the 2014 elections. Doing it beforehand would, as you say, give their opponents a good issue and give Democrats too much time before 2016 to prepare for it. The weak spot that I see for the repugs in your state and others mentioned is the governorship. Taking over the gerrymandered state legislatures would be tough, taking out unpopular governors in Ohio, Michigan, Pennsylvania, Wisconsin, and Florida would be a lot easier.

If there is no accountability for those who authorized torture, we can no longer say that we are a nation of laws, not men.

In Florida, ex-governor Charlie Crist will be running again in 2014, as a Democrat.  He will win, and that takes Florida off the table for electoral college gerrymandering.  In Pennsylvania, Corbett is getting bad press for a variety of bad moves relating to Penn State child abuse scandal, and a Democrat should be able to knock him off.  Let's focus real attention on winning those governorships back, since they are statewide office elections and can't be gerrymandered!
