    When the Arctic ice finishes melting, summers in the Northern Hemisphere are going to get a lot hotter.  The ice has been keeping the world cool, like ice in a drink keeps the drink cool.  And except for a remnant of Greenland, the ice may be gone as soon as October 2020.

    This disaster is going to be set off by methane now trapped under permafrost under the Arctic Sea next to Siberia.  Warming in the Arctic is thawing the permafrost and letting the methane escape.  The only "out" I can think of is that as the oceans rise the additional depth of water may insulate the permafrost and the increased pressure from greater depth may help confine the methane.
