  •  however, comma, there is a kernel of truth in the (0+ / 0-)

    NRA's ad.

Schools in this country are not equally well-protected regardless of which children attend.

For example, had Adam Lanza tried to breach the school where the First Daughters attend, is there any doubt he'd've been a fine red mist on the sidewalk before the first door-side windowpane finished breaking?

Had that been the outcome at Sandy Hook, instead of what did happen, would the world not be a better place because those 20 children and their teachers and guardians were still alive?

We need to be honest about this. Sometimes, all we can do is all we can do, and we're not doing all we can to make sure all our kids are safe. Some of the things we can do involve rethinking our whole approach to schooling, IMNVHO, including breaking up the industrial-scale warehouse-style campus model. Smaller classes. Smaller buildings. Teachers paid as though they're the guardians of our most precious resource, because they are.

And as today's announcement by the President recognizes, yes, we need better physical security.

smaller classrooms, etc. I'm a teacher (primary grades).  BUT I cannot see a legitimate comparison between my classroom/school with the SS protection of the POTUS and his family for the sake of national security.  Should we arm every citizen and their homes with the same protection that the POTUS receives?

for all our children the detail achieves for the First Family, what would be the downside?

I realize that practicality and expense are the first objections that will be raised. But our children are our future -- isn't that a national security concern too?
