Second, you should be commended for what you did and your clear thinking in doing it.

I'd be surprised if anyone who ever had small children, especially more than one, never lost them even for a moment. With mine, it happened in a mall, which scared the bejesus out of me because malls are places children are more likely to be snatched.

When I was 5, my father was a volunteer fireman. We were at a huge carnival in Caledonia, NY. People were shoulder to shoulder and my grip on my mother's hand was broken. I couldn't see or hear her.
While I was considering what to do next, and announcement came over the PA system. I traced the wire from the speaker, knowing there'd be a fireman at the other end of it. When I found the Caledonia squad car from which they'd broadcast, I explained the situation and my mother was called to me.
I can still see the relief flood her face as she found me chatting up the fireman about my dad while eating icecream and drinking a Coke.

It wasn't until I had children of my own that I fully appreciated what my Mom had been through.

I believe in democracy, civil liberties, and the rule of law. That makes me a liberal, and I’m proud of it. - Paul Krugman
