  •  My scare experience (6+ / 0-)

...came when I was in my early 20s I think. It's been a while. Still, I remember the incident plain as day.

A friend owned a legal semi-automatic handgun, and he was showing off by letting me play with it. SO incredibly stupid, I know.

I was enjoying myself working the slide, loading and unloading a clip, etc just like on TV. Also pulling the trigger when it was unloaded. Yes like a damned idiot. Well one time, I almost did it with a round in it. I wasn't dumb enough to have it pointed at anyone, thank the gods, but it would have still did damage and who knows what else, started a fire maybe. My friend realized what I was about to do and yelled out "NO DON'T!!!" in the nick of time.

My eyes got huge and my blood ran cold, I set it down on the table and took as many steps back as I could in the small space. Like it was a venomous snake.

I've never had the slightest urge to toy with a firearm again. And to this day I believe gun ownership should have mandatory training associated with it.

A scare like that stays with you for life.
