    I've ever read here.  I can't remember any diary affecting me quite like this one.  I read it at work, and I seriously had to get up and go outside to gain my composure.

    I don't know exactly why; for one thing it is written so well.  Perhaps because it is our circumstances are so similar - rural conditions, feelings of not fitting in with the culture.  It's the mystery in the dresser drawer; the shock of something incomprehensibly bad happening in a moment of curiosity of a young boy oblivious to the danger of the act; the fear of reprisal and the improvised lengths to cover it up; the full circle of tragedy and sorrow, all encapsulated in that heavy, cold instrument of curious power.  

    May it rest under a shaft of immovable concrete.
