  •  Without health insurance (9+ / 0-)

and a doctor you trusted, you likely would not have gone to a doctor at all, especially if the pain eased up on its own. (I have a doctor, but no insurance, and that's likely the choice I would make -- figure it can't be a big deal if it gets better on its own.) And if you had gone to the local ER uninsured or on Medicaid, they would have likely given you antacids and sent you home.

That said, it will be interesting to hear what comes of the procedure. I hope it turns out to be necessary and helpful; I'm skeptical that this may be an example where more testing produces more procedures but not necessarily better health. The weight loss and exercise you've already done (congrats!) (and maybe add a daily aspirin?) sounds far more useful.

I have several friends who have been through the stent thing and report good results and improved functioning afterward. May it be so for you.
