  •  Neither Jefferson or Franklin (0+ / 0-)

This distortion of freedom/liberty--and connecting this thinking to the Founding Fathers--has become a weird kind of religion, where Jefferson, et al become like prophets, and their words are taken out of context and distorted.

It is important to remember that Ben Franklin was not only a self-made entrepreneur--he was also a champion for the role of community in a society.  In his view, community was an essential part of the new American Democracy.

John Adams, perhaps not so much...he had a psycho side that would party overlap with the current fundamentalist/survivalist/gun nut/conspiracy thinking.

All forms of fundamentalist thought breed magical thinking.
