it's not the correct term and it's not how the term is used in legislation or by law enforcement. (Well, not most law enforcement: I've seen some doozies of ignorance in more than a few news articles quoting officers, but I'm pretty sure they're the minority.) The term as you were using it is completely meaningless. Ammunition is not high capacity or low capacity. The term high capacity refers only to how many rounds a magazine can hold, which is what any legislation referring to high capacity in the context of guns refers to as well. I have never heard anyone use it the way you do.

My comment isn't meant as a personal attack, though I'll admit I was a bit snide. But this is not just nitpicking either. Someone who misunderstands something this basic will come across with precious little credibility to the very people he or she is trying to persuade. That is one of the huge hurdles in the gun restriction discussion: one side doesn't know, and in some cases, even revels in not knowing the basic terminology of firearms, much less how they are operated or what the difference between types of rifles are.

    •  andalusi - fine, then from now on I will use (0+ / 0-)

      the term high-capacity ammo mag

By the way, when I go to the range, I never use anything bigger than a 10rnd mag.  My brother never uses anything bigger than a 15 .. so ... when we go together we use the short-hand lingo 'high-cap"

Ok, so see ..that's what I call it.

In my everyday life, I call it a "high-cap" ... I don't even bother saying "capacity" or mag or clip

By the way, just because someone uses a short-hand that you don't like does not mean they don't know what they are talking about.

But, since I do not write diaries to start fights or arguments, and if it makes you feel better and Black1 feel better I will use the term "high-capacity ammunition magazine" from now on.

      We're cool now.

Hard to say whether it's the cop or the reporter who's clueless.

the purpose of the second amendment is to promote a well-regulated militia, in the same sense that the purpose of the first amendment is to promote a well-informed electorate.
