  •  The fatal flaw of lifting one/day diary limit... (3+ / 0-)

    How about this?

Constraint the >1 diary per day PRIVILEGE to people who have been here for a certain length of time.

If they're new, fine, they wait the week or whatever it is, then they can post one a day.

Probation period of at least a month or so, then you get to post up to two a day. Or something like that.

But this unlimited shit from new users is producing these spammers.

Who here, even the most active users, front page excluded, writes over 3-4 diaries a day?

a feature that TUs get?  Other people get from say, 1 to 5 based on how long they have been here and/or their mojo rating.

So time of registration isn't a good method.

Mojo is better, or maybe a ramping up plan. You can only post one diary in a day if it's your first. That would have saved Anonymous9 or whatever her name was. The one who tried to post all the "47%" diaries and got banned? If she could have only posted one diary, she would have been forced to pay attention to everyone who was telling her to stop clogging up the list with diary after diary and she might still be here.

diary per day once it has been a week since your first diary with at least one recommend and from there it goes by mojo with TUs getting unlimited diaries.  That way you have to either post a diary and wait a week or become a TU (as it is possible to be a TU without ever posting a diary) to be able to do more than one.

My above "suggestions" were borne of late-night frustration more than reasoned consideration of practical implications.

Still, there has to be some room for adjustment somewhere in the posting policy to prevent these instances from pushing good diaries farther down the recent list quicker than they would normally go.

The circumstance you mention is much more of the exception, whereas these diaries are starting to become more frequent, at least lately.
