  •  Well celsius degrees are bigger, but (6+ / 0-)

    the numbers are so low - the range so narrow - that I don't think they are as expressive of extreme ranges as they could be.

    But if I had said, off by "centimeters" or "millimeters" you might have thought that some of these problems weren't visible to the naked eye.  Based on some of the reporting I read now at least five years ago, the differences were obvious even without having to take a measurement.  Inches - if you know what an inch is like most people do in the US - would give you a better sense of what I was trying to convey in this flat media.

    •  30° C between way too cold and way too hot (0+ / 0-)

      How many steps do you really need to express how sucky the weather is ?

      Celsius are really nice.

        0°C --> Water is freezing
       10°C --> Way too cold to put me outside
       40°C --> Way too hot to put a dog outside
       100°C --> Water is boiling

      It lines up just fine with water state changes. And 30 degrees between too hot and too cold is enough for me :-)

      •  But saying it is 110 degrees F outside is (1+ / 0-)

        soooo much more dramatic than 40-something.

        Celsius would be more fun if it was like 40.1 (401!!!) degrees - that would seem way hotter than "40" does.

        And our "zero" is way colder than theirs is.

        ;)

        •  Our zero is so less informative (0+ / 0-)

          Theirs means it's freezing, literally.

          At 0°C, pure water turns into ice. But at 0°F, what does happen that's so special it deserves a 0?

          0 is an important number that shouldn't go wasted.

          •  You're talking science. (0+ / 0-)

            I'm talking poetic license.

            If I wrote that the measurements were well "more than 2.54 centimeters in many case" most in an American audience would not grasp what I was saying.
