    ...ago.  There are fewer food deserts.  The problem is that once you've developed the eating habits of eating in a food desert, what's to say that you will (or can afford to) avail yourself of the better options once you get access to a supermarket or a community garden?

    •  Also, once you're used to tasting fat & sugar (0+ / 0-)

      regularly it's hard to change without a real crisis pushing you.

      Especially kids & teens - they're wired to crave fat & sweet, so getting them to eat healthier is a challenge.
      If I'm working 2 jobs & taking public transportation, that challenge is maybe more than can be overcome.

      Food is always complicated.

      Something that doesn't make good sense, makes bad sense. That means someone is being deliberately hurtful & selfish. Look for motives behind actions & words.
