  •  shhhhh It's late and I should not be laughing out (13+ / 0-)

loud. The hubby and cats are asleep. Nicely done. Here is a visual aid to help reduce the ignorance level.

if a habitat is flooded, the improvement for target fishes increases by an infinite percentage...because a habitat suitability index that is even a tiny fraction of 1 is still infinitely higher than zero, which is the suitability of dry land to fishes.

    •  Thank you! You are that rare Kossack... (6+ / 0-)

...who is less ignorant than the rest!  Somewhat less ignorant anyway.

    •  Does the cavitation arise from similar or dis- (3+ / 0-)

similar forces?  The rotating propellor creates a hydrofoil effect, a pressure differential in the fluid, allowing it to "boil" at a low temperature at the location where pressure is below a certain point, the atmospheric pressure, I believe.  But what allows for cavitation when applying high-energy sound waves to fluid?  Does the wave form create a micro-gradient of pressure that mimics the action of a physical propellor rushing through the fluid?  Does the wave energy transfer to the fluid's particles and cause localized thermal heating above the boiling point of the fluid?  Maybe the incredibly short frequency of the sound waves is causing the molecules that comprise the fluid to almost instantaneously break their cohesive bonds, creating cavitation by inter-molecular disruption? Maybe the special chemical reagency of sound waves in a liquid result from those diffuse but similar adhesive bonds comprising a stronger link under the condition of almost instantaneous acceleration of the molecules in relation to each other than a weaker link within the molecule that is in solution or suspension, like breaking a chicken's neck by holding its head and swinging it in a circle...
Thanks a lot, dov12348, you've added tremendously to my ignorance level today!
