  •  It's just a rant. It's mostly a rant about guns (16+ / 0-)

not being one of the core problems.

Whether or not you like it, "wacko agenda" isn't called for.

     You know what I want?

I want to wake up in a society where my fellow Americans don't feel the need to own a goddamn gun!  A society that teaches it children peaceful resolution of conflicts. Not how to be "the mindless worker of tomorrow'.  A society that is respectful once again. A society that holds the criminal element accountable for their crimes, not rewards it through the levers of our government!

    Unless you think that's "wacko".

    •  No but the whole idea (13+ / 0-)

that people are going to kill themselves anyway so why try to prevent it is wacko!

Guns are part of the problem because them make it so much easier to hurt people, including ourselves, and multiply the suffering many times over.

The Newtown shooter killed all those kids in just about three minutes! The nut with a knife that attacked a school in China that day did not kill anyone. They had a similar number of victims.

As a parent when I think of vaccinations I think I would rather have an autistic child than a dead child.  When it comes to guns I would rather have a stabbed child than a dead child. Call me crazy.

Guns do not make people nicer or more polite.  Having guns around does not deter violence. If that worked we would be the nicest place on the planet and there would never be any violence. Instead we get people I do not think very highly of arguing that guns prevent crimes and violence while we have the most gun violence in the world and people shooting teenagers over loud music.

That passed by; this can, too. - Deor

    •  If we can ban lawn darts why are guns sacred? (7+ / 0-)

I stand by my use of the word wacko, miles of diary space ranting about antidepressants left me wondering if a Scientologist had wandered into DailyKos.

Sorry but guns ARE a core problem.  Anyone who argues differently is in denial.

Senator Nye in the 1920s held a committee looking into how the US got involved in WWI pointing out "The Merchants of Death" that from his perspective led the US into War to make a lot of money.

Today we again have "Merchants of Death" who have conned a significant minority of Americans into thinking that they need to have personal arsenals "for safety" never mind that murder is down and that guns in a house are more likely to be used on the residents of the house.  This is an extremely dangerous power keg that needs to be defused in a safe manner.

The US Constitution is not a suicide pact and Joe Biden is right, you don't need an assault rife, a simple cheaper shotgun is far more utilitarian for legitimate gun uses.

      •  I don't think Lawn Darts should have been banned. (6+ / 0-)

Stupidity should not be protected from itself.

      •  Are you familiar with the term "Non Sequitor"? (3+ / 0-)

Very little of what you've said is in any way responsive to my comment.

I understand that you've got a lot of things you want to say.  Please, say them.  Diary them. Have a blast.

But don't pretend they're a response to my comment.

This is not a "wacko agenda".  It doesn't matter if you agree with the diarist about how to achieve it.

        It's a decent goal.

That's why they order people with different opinions out of each others diaries.

        As if!
