    Guns do not make people nicer or more polite.  Having guns around does not deter violence. If that worked we would be the nicest place on the planet and there would never be any violence. Instead we get people I do not think very highly of arguing that guns prevent crimes and violence while we have the most gun violence in the world and people shooting teenagers over loud music.

    I read no argument that guns make people more polite or deter violence.

    The diarist has argued, in the main, that there are more important issues to address and that if we want to help people our resources may be better expended in other efforts.

    I don't really agree with that argument, but do you think we could maybe agree to accept that the diarist has in fact made that argument, and not some argument about deterrence or politeness?
