Is not the argument that was made on air or elsewhere. The argument made there was the typical 'all vaccines are evil' mularky

    •  I am not in that camp (0+ / 0-)

I fully support old-school vaccines like measles and polio.  But the whooping cough vaccine has been allowed to degrade so it's now useless against the current circulating strain, and flu vaccines don't work in the population that needs them most and don't work much better in the rest of us.

      •  Whooping cough immunity is not life-long. (2+ / 0-)

Even if you get whooping cough, your immunity degrades. It isn't "just" that the vaccine has "degraded."

But the current whooping cough vaccine is so useless that it's no more than a placebo.

Results.  —Of the 173 nonvaccinated household contacts, 96 developed typical pertussis, compared with seven of 112 contacts vaccinated with acellular pertussis vaccine. Vaccine efficacy was consequently calculated to be 88.7% (95% confidence interval, 76.6% to 94.6%). Protection did not wane until at least the time recommended for booster vaccination. None of the analyzed potential confounding factors—age, socioeconomic status, erythromycin treatment, household composition, center effect, and selection bias—influenced study results in favor of the vaccine.

Conclusions.  —Under conditions of intense household exposure, primary vaccination with acellular vaccine protected against pertussis until at least the time recommended for booster vaccination. The vaccine can be expected to be equally or more effective in settings with lower infectious pressure.(JAMA. 1996;275:37-41)

The trouble is that is wears off relatively quickly (maybe 5 yearse) not that it doesn't work.

Why it that important? Keeps infants from dying

Again, that's not to say the vax makes you pertussis proof, and certainly not forever. But that ain't placebo.

side effects. Now apparently as the original strains have been driven out of circulation, the minor strains not in the original mix are the ones causing much of the current disease.

I'd tip you but they cut off my tip box. The TSA would put Moses, Jesus, and Muhammad on the no-fly list.
