I had the flu -- wicked sick -- in 1977, and nothing but a mild cold since. But I teach college students who get sick constantly. So this year, when they came around with flu shot clinics near my house -- free -- I decided it was time.

My doc wants me to get a whooping cough booster too, and I have my eyes out for a free clinic for that as well. The shingles one is way too expensive so for now I'm giving that one a pass.

I went to the E.R. and got a tetanus booster. I asked if I could get whooping cough also. They explained that they just gave it to me. The hospital decided that since a combination shot was readily available that it didn't make any sense to give the single antigen version any more.
