  •  that should be obvious to anyone, don't (8+ / 0-)

    you think?

Even an inveterate capitalist. What's capitalism without natural resources,? And that feeds in (quite literally) to capitalism's need for labor too.  Even with reduced demand for labor, you have to have some food and water available for your labor pool.

Capitalism is a big machine, and it can't function without certain things being fed into it. Even the harshest, ugliest, most inhumane, life-denying point of view should be able to understand that the economy is bollocks without the environment. It simply can't function. That's what it means to be part of a planet.

This shouldn't be hard for anybody to understand. The fact that it is hard is...scary.

incredible wealth.  The rich can afford to evade the effects of climate change and as long as that is the case, they won't do anything about it.

    •  Indeed, scary. But it's not just outright ... (3+ / 0-)

...deniers who support policies that indicate that they don't understand how environment and economy are inextricably entangled. Any time someone raises cap-and-trade or carbon tax or subsidies for renewable energy or densifying cities to make them more amenable to public transportation or downsizing housing or any one of innumerable ideas of this sort, some folks on the left argue that none of this is reasonable until we solve income inequality, etc. I agree we need to deal with such matters. But these days they cannot be dealt without dealing with the dislocating, disruptive forces that global warming is going to impose upon people.

Don't tell me what you believe, show me what you do and I will tell you what you believe.
